Folks
I've also posted this elsewhere, apologies if you've already seen it. This is a little beyond our ambit, however I can't hurt to ask. ;D
I've received a query from someone looking for any information regarding a Scottish tenor named Andrew MacPherson who recorded and sang on the radio in the U.K. The person who asks heard a tape recording from radio of MacPherson performing Gentle Annie, probably the Beltona recording listed below. So far the only thing I have been able to turn up is a mention of a singer by that name recording for Beltona in 1950:
and two sides for Parlophone:
Other than that nothing. Thank you in advance for any help.
Regards, J.

I have a collection of classical concert programmes, and have come across one which lists the singer Andrew Macpherson. On 29 May 1951 he was the tenor soloist in a performance of Handel's oratorio Solomon, given at the Royal Albert Hall, London, by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Thomas Beecham as part of the Festival of Britain Season (10 May - 30 June). The Principal Horn that night was Dennis Brain. A late reply, but I hope this may still be of use. Paul

Andrew Macpherson was born in Newmilns, Ayrshire. He was of a similar generation to a late friend of mine: they both auditioned for Covent Garden chorus at the same time, so I would estimate he would be born in years ranging from 1910 to 1920. He had a group which sang internationally and broadcast frequently called, "The Andrew Macpherson Singers." That's as much as I know.

In 1960 I joined 'Caledonia' a show of Scottish songs, music and dance, as lead dancer and spent five months touring USA and Canada. In 1962 the group did a second tour from Jan to April. The Director and Leader of the group was Andrew Macpherson, who appears to be the person which your guest Gordon Cree has talked about. If your guy asking about him contacts me I can give a bit more information but only on my time with the group. There was an LP recording of most of the music from the show. billyforsyth@compuserve.com
